Some people believe that acropora represent the ultimate form of reefkeeping. They are usually seen as highly rewarding yet challenging to maintain. They require moderate to intense water flow and lighting. Stable alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, and trace elements like potassium must all be maintained. Under Philips Coral Care and EcoTech Radion lights, these fragments are being cultivated. Easy Reefs Easy Booster and Easy SPS coral food are products we use and advocate.
The jewel in the SPS world is the acropora. There is no other genus with as many species as Acropora, and reef aquarists expressly refer to the care requirements of Acropora when discussing what it takes to maintain an SPS system. That being said, one of the hardest corals to maintain is Acropora. They need the highest flow and light since they are extremely sensitive to changes in the chemistry of the water. Long-term maintenance of Acropora has proven difficult for many seasoned hobbyists, but that is part of what makes this coral so appealing. Finally, an aquarium that has been created for a minimum of a year is highly beneficial to Acropora. Additional Acropora care suggestions are provided below.
This species would benefit greatly from high lighting. Although high output fluorescent lights (T5) can be used to keep acropora alive, metal halide (MH) lighting is a better option for increased intensity. Its coloring will probably alter based on the available lighting. It could take Acropora longer to become used to bright lights, like metal halides. Acropora are renowned for their striking color shifts based on several tank parameters, mostly illumination. Certain hues on Acropora have the ability to completely shift; for example, red parts can turn green.
